Patrick Scorse has given up his ambitions of representing Australian in equestrian to follow in the footsteps of his father John, who rode four Group One winners as a jockey, and now provides mounting yard commentary for Sky Racing.
Patrick Scorse has joined Matthew Dale's stable - MJ Dale Racing - and is three barrier trials away from getting his racing licence.
John Scorse says the prospect of interviewing his own son following a race win "is a distinct possibility" and certainly something to look forward to.
Eighteen-year-old Patrick says he will be "over the moon" if that dream ever comes to fruition.
"I don't even know how I'd deal with just going out there to have my first race, let alone my first winner," Patrick Scorse said.
"I'm not sure whether I'd call him dad by accident on the air or anything like that, but I can't wait. I'm keen as mustard.
"If I can be half as good as [dad] - and that's still two Group One's - that'd be [special]."
Patrick Scorse likely won't ride at Queanbeyan's annual Boxing Day races but he will have plenty of time to polish his skills in the new year.
John Scorse is a two-time Canberra jockeys premiership winners and Patrick has taken to the racing like a duck to water.
After all, it runs in the family - John's brother Alan was a jockey, as was Patrick's cousin Matty.
"You're finished by breakfast and your job is riding horses for a living, that's just awesome - I just loved everything about it," Patrick Scorse said.
"I was riding [equestrian] for a very long time when I was little and then I started doing [racing]. I seem to find that every trial I do, I pick something up that I didn't even know I could learn.
"Things that can't be explained, you just get the feel and that feel stays in your head, and then you do it next time and pick something else up. It's just consistently building.
"You can practice as much as you can, and people can tell you things but with riding you can be told as much as you want, but until you feel it and get it yourself nothing really happens."
