Needing four runs to win with one ball remaining, Fields cleared the boundary rope to finish unbeaten on 80 from just 41 balls as the Fire finished on 8-179 on Sunday to record a clean sweep from its three games in Canberra.

The old adage "catches win matches" rang true as the Meteors paid the price for some sloppy fielding after earlier posting an imposing total of 4-176 as they chased their first win of the Twenty20 competition.

The Meteors were in the box seat when the Fire needed 22 to win off the last two overs, but dropped catches cost the home side dearly.

Fields was given a life on the second-last ball of the match, then hit off-spinner Sam Bates for six to win the game off the last ball.

"The dropping of a few catches hurts, but I don't think you can put it down to any one individual claiming those catches when you're defending 170-odd," Meteors coach Andrew Dawson said.

"Dropping Jodie does hurt, but it shows she's still one of the better players in Australia and could still be playing for Australia.

"What was really pleasing was the way Jenny Taffs batted and also Katie Mack backing up from her century from Saturday."

Meteors opener Jenny Taffs made her second half-century in as many days, top-scoring with 57 from 43 balls.

She received great support from captain Kris Britt (43 off 33), while Kira Churchland unleashed with a brilliant cameo of 38 from only 14 balls at the end of the innings.

The Meteors will be back in action from January 2-4 at Manuka Oval when they host WA.
