Australian under-19 fast bowler Lain Beckett will get his chance to impress for a Big Bash League contract when he returns for the ACT Comets in the Sydney Twenty20 competition.
Beckett is one of four changes to the ACT squad for the double-header against Penrith and Blacktown at Joe McAleer Oval on Sunday.
The Eastlake recruit has recently returned from representing the Australian under-19 team during its tour of Sri Lanka.
The Comets are using the Sydney Twenty20 competition to give their players exposure to the Sydney Sixers and the Sydney Thunder as they aim to finalise their rosters for the upcoming BBL.
They will be hoping for better performances this weekend after struggling in their opening two games, going down to Bankstown and Campbelltown by 24 runs and 36 runs respectively.
Comets coach Mark Higgs showed he could still be effective in the short format, taking 3-20 and making 30 not out in the loss to Campbelltown.
Weston Creek Molonglo all-rounder Harry Medhurst, Ginninderra fast bowler Cameron Suidgeest and Adelaide Strikers opener Jono Dean are the other new additions to the ACT squad.
Dean will captain the squad, but has to pass a fitness test on his injured hip.
ANU batsman Scott Murn is on standby.
