With the scores locked at 3-3 and sets level, the Velocity lost the match by just three games at Melbourne Park on Tuesday to finish tied for seventh overall.
Things didn't get off to a great start for Velocity as both Alison Bai and Ashley Keir dropped their first sets 4-1.
Bai went down to Jessica Moore in straight sets while Keir fought back to beat Olivia Key 4-1 in the third set.
The Velocity went down 2-1 when Alexandra Nancarrow lost 4-1, 4-0 to American Jennifer Ellie, but Tyra Calderwood levelled the tie again, beating Amber Marshall.
Keir and Calderwood dominated their doubles match, dropping only two games to put the Velocity up 3-2.
In the other doubles match, Bai and Nancarrow won a tight first set 5-3 in a tiebreak, but lost the second set and the deciding tiebreak.
