Although there is still four months to go before the title is decided, there is every chance Central and the Tuggeranong Vikings will be playing off in September with the premiership at stake.

Central bounced back from conceding its first goal of the season to equalise in the second half for a 1-1 result at the National Hockey Centre at Lyneham on Sunday.

Tonina Staunton's strike cancelled out Laura Gray's effort to ensure both Central and the Vikings remain undefeated after four rounds.

After cruising through its opening three games scoring 29 goals while keeping a clean sheet, Central coach Robert Apps said the step up in class was noticeable.

"The first three games we had, the opposition was nowhere near what we had today," Apps said.

"The two teams that played today will play pretty much in the grand final, it will be close to it.

"Just watching the competition I think these are the two standout teams."

Central lost to St Pat's in the grand final last year after knocking out minor premiers Vikings in the preliminary final.

Vikings coach Jason Toole said his side was determined to make amends for bowing out in straight sets.

"We'll definitely be fighting it out at the business end," Toole said.

"Both teams will be in the top four, I'll be surprised if they're not.

"It's early days, but it's certainly looking that way."

In the other games in the women's competition, Albury defeated Old Canberrans 2-0, ANU accounted for Goulburn 3-0 and University of Canberra were too strong for North Canberra 4-0.

Meanwhile in men's first-grade, United beat St Pat's 3-2, Central hammered Tuggeranong 8-0, Goulburn and Wests drew 1-1 and Old Canberrans eased past Albury 6-0.
