Jindabyne was dropped to 81 per cent and steady two weeks ago, and Eucumbene is rising from 55 per cent, all of which should mean good fishing.

Catches in the past week have been encouraging. Some nice browns and rainbows were caught in Jindabyne on mudeyes, scrub worms and Power Bait. In Eucumbene large browns to 2kg and rainbows to 1kg were caught on yabbies, scrub worms and Power Bait. Trollers landed their best fish on Tasmanian Devils, Rapala minnows and other lures, using four colours of lead core line.

Fly anglers reported plenty of dragonflies on the move and a few browns rising to dark beetles blown onto the water.

Best locations include Hatchery Bay and Kalkite in Jindabyne and Cobrabald Bay, Wainui Bay and Tolbar in Eucumbene.

Anglers attending the festival are reminded that severe penalties can be imposed for illegal camping on the foreshores of both Eucumbene and Jindabyne. Overnight fishing is allowed but visitors are expected to camp only in registered campgrounds.

Goldens moving In lakes

Some spectacular golden perch have been caught on lure and bait in Canberra's urban lakes and Googong. Simon Newcombe starred with an estimated 5kg-plus fish caught from his Hoby kayak on a tiny ultra-light Rapala Deep Runner.

Another large fish, 63cm in length, was caught in Googong on a Burrinjuck Special by a bank angler. Other catches included some nice fish from Lake Burley Griffin behind the National Museum and some smallish specimens from Lake Ginninderra.

Three nice fish were caught on scrub worms in Lake Tuggeranong near the dam wall. Fish were caught at varying times of the day but especially between 4.30pm and 6.30pm. Fly fishers landed some medium-sized redfin on goldfish fly in Lake Tuggeranong.

Shoreline fishing at Burrinjuck

Burrinjuck rose to almost 80 per cent last week before dropping back a bit following releases for irrigation. The rising water attracted many golden perch into the shallows in search of food and bank anglers made some good catches on yabbies, shrimps and scrub worms.

One group fished the Goodradigbee Arm with yabbies and scrub worms on two afternoons for eight goldens to 56cm. Four of the fish were more than 50cm. The successful technique was to bob in 4 to 5m of water with a light running sinker and 4.5kg leader. On another trip, one of the anglers used the same technique to land six fish to 63cm.

A group of south coast club anglers had a successful two-day session targeting carp in the Murrumbidgee Arm and also landing 88 golden perch as a bycatch. One angler did well casting blades to the rock walls and another starred using Burrinjuck Specials and small AC hard-bodied lures.
