With steady rain getting heavier at Jamison Oval, Hewitt dispatched Eastlake fast bowler Josh Bennett over the rope before the game was called off after the fourth ball of the 19th over.
Wests/UC finished at 3-84 chasing Eastlake's total of 7-210 from its 50 overs.
After losing two of its first three games in the Gallop Cup, Wests/UC have now won three on the trot to be outright second in the one-day competition.
Wests/UC captain Ben Oakley said there were some nervous moments as his side were behind the target with rain closing in.
"We got the app on the phone and we were behind by eight runs and took the [Eastlake] spinner for seven or eight runs, which put us right on target," Oakley said.
"Adam Hewitt hit a six with the first ball of the next over to put us five runs clear, then bowled three more balls of that over, then we came off, so it was perfect timing.
"They weren't really aware when they were out there, but if we lost a wicket we would've been behind by 10 runs, so the six came at a very good time."
Having won both the Twenty20 and two-day competition last season, Wests/UC have rebounded strongly in the 50-over format after a less than ideal start.
"A couple of matches ago we were staring down the barrel and we haven't had the best form in one-day cricket for the last two seasons," Oakley said.
"We've managed to knuckle down and get three wins in a row, which gives us a bit of momentum."
Weston Creek Molonglo remain unbeaten at the top of the table after their game with North Canberra Gungahlin was washed out at Harrison.
Norths had made 9-233 from their 50 overs before Weston Creek had their innings abandoned without a ball being bowled.
Ginninderra broke through for its first win of the season, beating ANU by six runs in a thriller at Kippax.
Paceman Cam Suidgeest was the hero for Ginninderra, taking 4-33 from his 10 overs as ANU were bowled out for 153 chasing 160 for victory.
A four-wicket haul from off-spinner Mark Solway and an unbeaten half-century from Englishman Ed Barnard helped Queanbeyan to an eight-wicket win against Tuggeranong at Freebody Oval.
Solway took 4-11 from eight overs including three maidens to restrict Tuggeranong to just 135, before Barnard (72) and Dean Solway (45 not out) steered Queanbeyan to victory.
