The winner will sit back and wait for the result of the second semi-final between unbeaten juggernaut Melbourne City and the fourth-placed team at AAMI Park on Monday, January 25.

That match will be the first part of a double-header ahead of the Melbourne City v Wellington Phoenix A-League game.

Brisbane Roar are in the box seat to finish fourth with a three-point gap over their nearest challenger, but Adelaide United and the Newcastle Jets can sneak into the finals if the Roar slip up this weekend.

The Roar are away to the Jets on Sunday while Adelaide hosts Canberra on Friday night.

The Melbourne City semi-final will also be shown live on Fox Sports and ABC TV.

City have already clinched the premier's plate having won all of their 11 games this season.

But Canberra is building plenty of momentum of their own on the back of a seven-game winning streak and five clean sheets in a row.

Canberra made light work of the Western Sydney Wanderers with a 3-0 victory on Sunday even with Matildas stars Lydia Williams and Michelle Heyman watching from the grandstand.
