Andrew Bogut: LA Lakers rookie Lonzo Ball is nothing like I expectedRoy Ward

When it comes to LA Lakers rookie and No.2 draft pick Lonzo Ball, Andrew Bogut admits he is nothing like he expected.
Ball, who has been caught up in the hype that often follows young NBA stars, is rated alongside Australian talent Ben Simmons as among the favourites to win the NBA rookie of the year award this season.
It hasn't helped that Ball's dad LaVar has been picking public fights and aggressively promoting his three sons' talents at every opportunity, garnering significant internet fame but also a brand that hasn't always reflected well on his sons.
"All the hype with what his dad has done with the brand means people want to knock him down," Bogut said of his new Lakers point guard.

"People love it, people hate it.
"Fortunately that reflects on Lonzo as well but he is the complete opposite to what I thought."
The family also released their own brand of shoes, Big Baller Brand, leading many NBA fans to believe Ball might also carry the arrogant traits his father has been spruiking in the media, but Bogut said that's a far cry from the reality.
"He is softly spoken, has a good sense of humour and doesn't say a lot. Nobody has had any issues with him
"People's true colours come out as the season goes on but I don't think he is like anything that has been reported."

Bogut said Ball was another example of how reputations can be falsely built.
"The media, fans or blogs paint someone in a certain light and that's that," Bogut said.
"We have learnt that though sport, politics and whatever, that just because it is written about you doesn't mean it is true.
"Obviously, he gets a lot of grief for what his dad does with their brand but it's just a dad supporting his son you know.
"There is a lot of people out there who would love to have that support from their parents.
"You can't knock it."
