The AIS has struggled to be competitive in recent years, winning just eight of its past 88 games in the past four seasons.

AIS coach Phil Brown believes more overseas tours would be beneficial to Australia's junior ranks, a proposal Bibby agrees with.

''If we want to stay at the top of the international chain we need to continue to make changes and continue to evolve,'' Bibby said.

''Not having them [AIS] probably toughens and evens up the competition.''

Bibby is one of the few Capitals players who isn't a product of the institute.

''I had an AIS scholarship back in the day but chose not to complete it because I had a chance to play with Dandenong in the league as a 16-year-old,'' she said.

''The Capitals girls who came through - [Marianna] Tolo, Willo [Carly Wilson] and Flea [Nicole Hunt] - they talk about what an amazing experience it was as kids coming through and having a chance to play in the national league.

''That aspect of it, it's a little bit sad those kids don't get that chance as a group to play together because I think it'll be a pretty amazing experience to have.

''It'll be sad not to go down to the [AIS] Training Hall and play those guys but I guess the game's evolving and we have to go with the times.''

Sixteen years after making her WNBL debut with Dandenong, the evergreen Bibby confirmed on Monday she would suit up for her seventh season with the Capitals in 2012-13.

The 32-year-old guard is showing no signs of slowing down.

She will link up with Queensland Basketball League club Gladstone next week before returning to Canberra for pre-season training in August.

Bibby said she never considered leaving the Capitals and was excited at the prospect of once again teaming up with the world's best basketballer, Lauren Jackson.

''You're lying if you're saying it isn't part of your decision, she's the best player in the world,'' said Bibby, who played alongside Jackson in the Australian under-19 team at the 1997 junior world championships.

''Everywhere we go on the road next year it'll be like the Beatles are travelling.

''Whatever my role is I'm happy to take it.''
