The Capitals will play their first game in four years at Southern Cross Stadium in a bottom-of-the-ladder WNBL clash against the West Coast Waves on Saturday night.

They will try to continue their dominant run at the Capitals' ''spiritual home'' after setting a 26-game winning streak at Tuggeranong between 2005-09.

The seven-time WNBL champions have been based at the AIS Arena since Lauren Jackson made a comeback in the 2009-10 grand-final winning campaign.

It costs about $6000 to hire the Arena for home matches, while a trip to Tuggeranong is just $2000.

''We're experimenting this time and just seeing if the conditions are right for us and we'll assess it at the end of the season,'' Basketball ACT chief executive Tony Jackson said.

''We'll see if it continues and if [Tuggeranong] forms a regular part of the schedule and we'll take into account the response from the south-side basketball clubs.

''If people come and watch us play, we'll certainly consider it. It makes sense to look at Tuggeranong for games against West Coast or Logan, who traditionally draw smaller crowds, those are the opportunities.''

The Capitals moved to the AIS Arena to accommodate larger crowds when superstar Jackson returned to the line-up. Four-time Olympian Jackson will be back with the Capitals next season.

In the past, Southern Cross Stadium was deemed to have inadequate lighting for television broadcasts and can only hold 1200 fans. The Capitals started their WNBL existence at Tuggeranong and hosted most regular-season matches there, but play-off and championship games were at AIS Arena.

The team maintained an incredible winning record at Tuggeranong for four years, winning 26 matches in a row, which started in January 2005 and finished in November 2009. They have won 27 of their past 29 games at Tuggeranong.

However, only four current Capitals - Abby Bishop, Carly Wilson, Natalie Hurst and Jess Bibby - have been part of a winning team at Southern Cross Stadium.

The Capitals have won just six games this season and need two wins from their last six matches to avoid equalling their worst win-loss record in more than a decade.

Their preparation for the clash against West Coast was hampered by the absence of Bishop, Hurst and Carley Mijovic, who spent the week with the Australian Opals.

They will also battle scorching conditions as temperatures are set to hit 40 degrees on Saturday.

Coach Carrie Graf is confident her team can bounce back from a heartbreaking loss to the Adelaide Lightning last weekend.

''It will be good for us to get back to Tuggeranong, it's intimate and it's nice to return to your history and spiritual home,'' Graf said.

''The girls are looking forward to it, it gives us an advantage and we're hoping it can get us back into form.''
