The Canberra Capitals insist that slashing ticket prices is designed to "attract more families to the brand" rather than put more bums on seats as they look to make the WNBL playoffs for the first time in four years.

The price for a family ticket has been halved to $25 as the club looks to improve its affordability and build its young fan base in Canberra's crowded marketplace.
Capitals general manager Lachlan Searle said they're not willing to rely on the "Lauren Jackson factor" to fill the AIS Arena stands when she returns from injury a few weeks into the season.
Adult tickets have been reduced from $22 to $15, and students, pensioners and seniors will pay $10.
"It's a competitive family market out there and we're pretty conscious we want to get primary school and early-high-school kids to come," Searle said.
"You can get caught up and confused doing lots of ticket offers, but we're pretty happy with the value we've set and hopefully it'll increase the numbers a bit.
"But it's not about getting bums on seats, it's about people engaging with the brand.
"From our point of view we feel we're in a position to offer the best-value family ticket in town.
"The reality is in Canberra there's a lot of entertainment options, not just sport. The family side of things is something we're really pushing."
While Jackson will help the Capitals' marketability, Searle, who assumed the post this year, said they're intent on promoting the team as a whole.
Interestingly, club stalwart Carly Wilson's name has been more popular than Jackson for fans to put on the back of singlets which will come with their membership packages.
"We want all our girls to become household names if possible; the community gets behind the team rather than individuals," he said.
"There's no doubt some individual names, whether it be the Raiders, Brumbies or Capitals help sell.
"When you're talking about making an event attractive to nine- to 12-year-olds, winning's part of it but it's not everything.
"One of our strengths is the accessibility of the players, being available after games for autographs or selfies; it's a point of difference."
The Capitals begin their season on the road against Melbourne Boomers on October 17, with their first home game against Sydney Flames on October 18.
Capitals tickets will be on sale at Ticketek on Monday.
