She's a star in the Capitals' push for a WNBL title next summer, but Abby Bishop will be Canberra's foe on Friday night.

Bishop will play for the Launceston Tornadoes against the Capitals Academy in Friday night's South East Australian Basketball League match at Belconnen.

Bishop has only played two matches with the Tornadoes, already starring with an average of 16.5 points and 10 rebounds a game. Bishop's addition in Tasmania, coincided with Australian point guard Natalie Hurst joining the Capitals Academy last week.

"Her insight on court is invaluable and she created opportunities for the others on court, which is a strength of hers," Capitals Academy coach Sandy Tomley said.

The Canberra Gunners face a tough challenge to stay in touch with the top four in their conference, taking on competition leaders the North West Tasmania Thunder.

The double-header begins with the Capitals Academy at 6pm and the Gunners at 8pm.
