Not satisfied with taking on the under-manned Capitals after 17 losses in a row, injuries and a week of training with just seven fit players, the Stars enforced a clause to force Canberra's United States import DeNesha Stallworth to sit on the sideline for the clash on Saturday night.

In the end it didn't matter as they swept to a 115-75 win, with Stallworth's presence not the deciding factor.

But less than two months after releasing her, the Stars made sure Stallworth didn't come back to bite them in Logan by denying Canberra's request to allow her to play.

Stars coach Shane Heal fired a parting shot at Stallworth when she left the team, declaring: "DeNesha didn't want to come off the bench and didn't want to be kept accountable, so it was a mutual agreement because I certainly wasn't going to be changing the way we keep our culture."

And there was no love lost as she sat on the sideline unable to help the battling Capitals.

Making the loss even harder to swallow is the fact the Capitals have to back up against one of the championship favourites, the Townsville Fire, less than 24 hours later on Sunday.

"It's been a really difficult lead up, we've had a whole lot of adversity and things that didn't go our way," said Capitals captain Carly Wilson.

"Absolutely it's a tough one. But in the same breath, we had two arms and two legs like them and they out-worked us.

"DeNesha wasn't there in the first quarter and we were up by 11, so that's got nothing to do with it."

One of the biggest shocks for the beaten-up Capitals was their rebounding stats. They grabbed just one offensive rebound for the entire game, with under-sized Wilson forced to play as the power forward.

The Capitals got off to a flyer on the run and their superb first quarter left the home team stunned, skipping out to a 29-18 lead at the break.

For a brief moment there was a glimmer of hope that this would be the game to end the record losing streak.

Unfortunately, that glimmer was destroyed by the rampaging Stars who were ruthless in a 51-point turnaround as they inflicted a 40-point defeat in one of the lowest points of Canberra's season.

They outscored Canberra 33-15 in the second quarter to snatch a seven-point lead at half-time and backed it up with a complete second-half domination.

It was the second time Canberra conceded 100 points or more this season and threatened to make its way into the record books for all the wrong reasons as the Stars flirted with the biggest winning margin by any team against the Capitals.
