The Capitals want to finalise Lauren Jackson's record WNBL contract in the next two weeks and have the superstar in Canberra for the impending announcement of a three-season deal.

Jackson is back in Australia for two weeks after the Seattle Storm was knocked out of WNBA title contention.

The 30-year-old will join Spanish team Ros Casares Valencia next month and will not play for the Capitals in the 2011-12 campaign.

However, she has already agreed to terms for a new contract with the Capitals and Basketball ACT which will likely see her play three of the next four seasons.

Jackson last played for Canberra when she helped to guide the team to its seventh championship, in 2009-10.

It is understood Basketball ACT wants to finalise the details of Jackson's deal while she is in Australia so she can be in Canberra for the announcement, possibly as early as next week.

Jackson is one of the best players in the world and will join the Capitals after her Olympic Games campaign with the Opals next year.

The Capitals will begin their bid to win an eighth championship in Melbourne next weekend when they play the Bulleen Boomers in a grand final rematch.

Captain Jess Bibby was excited about Jackson but said her team could still be a title contender without her.

''We'll worry about Loz coming back in when she signs and it will be great for Canberra,'' Bibby said.
