Canberra Capitals star Renee Montgomery says the team feels like "the bad news bears" as they aim to avoid the worst losing streak in the club's history.

An 11th straight loss to start the WNBL season against the Sydney-Uni Flames at the Tuggeranong Southern Cross Stadium on Saturday night would put the Capitals (0-10) in the record books for all the wrong reasons.
The Capitals were on the verge of breaking through for their maiden victory last weekend, but fell just short in a 66-61 loss to the Melbourne Boomers.
It's left the short-handed seven-time WNBL champions desperately searching for answers to finally break through for that elusive win.
"We don't want to make records in the wrong way, so that's kind of in the back of my mind," Montgomery said.
"But I just want to win. Who wants to be the bad news bears, and that's how I feel we are right now."
The horror start to the season has led to the University of Canberra holding a review of the Capitals' program.
Capitals forward Abby Bishop said the players hadn't been consulted at this stage.
Bishop said she would prefer to stay in Canberra next season as a single mother to her daughter Zala.
"Nothing has been spoken to the playing group as far as we are aware," Bishop said.
"Everybody knows it's easier for me to stay here with Zala and I'd much rather do that and it depends on lots of different things.
"It's hard for everyone to think ahead when we don't know where the program is going and what is happening."
The Capitals have been decimated by injury this season and suited up only seven players in the loss to the Boomers.
"We're really out-manned a lot of the times and at a certain point when teams have more talent than we do, after a while, we wear down and they keep coming," Montgomery said.
"It's kind of hard to keep up with teams when they have so many different weapons.
"We fight them off as long as we can, and at a certain point we stop this person and know this person is scoring. It's difficult from that aspect."
One positive was the atmosphere generated in the smaller confines of the Tuggeranong Southern Cross Stadium.
The Capitals will play there for the second straight week while the AIS Arena is unavailable.
"I felt the fans were on top of you more than our normal arena, so it was nice," Montgomery said.
"It was really like a sixth man out there. When the fans are into it, it gives you energy. We actually had a home-court advantage."
