Still stinging after a shock 2-1 series loss in the Twenty20 series to India, the Australians hit back in the best possible fashion with a comprehensive 101-run victory in the opening One Day International match at Manuka Oval on Tuesday night.

Blackwell and Perry combined for a match-winning partnership of 180 - Blackwell scoring her highest ODI innings of 114 from 112 balls and Perry equalling a career best with 90.

The Southern Stars posted 6-276 before Perry took 4-45 with the ball to ensure India's run chase never gained momentum, getting bowled out for 175.

Perry is in a rich vein of form having scored eight half-centuries in her past nine ODIs and another in last Sunday's T20 victory at the SCG.

"Today was our most complete game of cricket so far in the last couple of weeks, so that was really nice," Perry said.

"I really enjoyed batting with Alex today, the wicket at Manuka is really good and if you can get in and make a partnership, it tends to make the difference in the game.

"It was nice to set a reasonably big total and we defended it really well."

Blackwell's century was the vice-captain's first in the ODI arena since playing against India in Canberra in 2008.

"I'm glad that didn't jinx me, so I'll pretend I scored a hundred at the next ground against that opposition," Blackwell laughed.

"It was a very comprehensive win, that was really important.

"For our confidence and to dent their confidence going into a home World Cup in the T20 format, I think it was a complete performance tonight we can be really happy with."

Southern Stars captain Meg Lanning got the Australians off to a flyer with a quick-fire 43 off 46 balls before she was caught behind.

Perry had the Indians on the back foot from the start of their run chase with a sharp piece of fielding to make the initial breakthrough.

She continued to take wickets at regular intervals to keep the Indians on the back foot.

Blackwell took a brilliant catch running backwards towards the boundary to give Perry her fourth wicket as part of a much improved performance in the field overall.

"It was a really good effort tonight, we shut down the twos really well, we had some good efforts on the rope and we want to throw our bodies around a little bit," Blackwell said.

"If it's there for a catch we want to know we are giving it our best effort.

"I was disappointed to put one down, bit of a tricky position with the sun, so it was nice to get a catch later on."

The Southern Stars are using the ODI series as preparation for the women's WT20 in India in March.

The final two games of the ODI series will be held at Blundstone Arena in Hobart on Friday and Sunday.

"The more cricket we play as a group the better," Perry said.

"We've got another series in New Zealand not long after this, it will be difficult conditions down in Hobart, a couple of day-night matches as well.

"All of it is really good preparation as a team, I know it's ODI format, but it's still good in terms of getting time in the middle together."
