Australia v India: Virat Kohli's perfect response to James Faulkner sledge

Kohli's sledge response goes viral

He may have hit a run-a-ball 117, but it was Indian vice-captain Virat Kohli's response to a sledge by Australian bowler James Faulkner that has people talking.

Australian bowler James Faulkner had tried to rile up Kohli, who had moved along to 73 after taking a single, but was left feeling red-faced instead by the feisty batsman.

The heated exchange was picked up the stumps microphones during the third ODI and despite Faulkner's initial jibe being unclear, Kohli's response was perfect.

"You're wasting your energy. There's no point. I've smashed you enough in my life. Just go and bowl," said Kohli, waving Faulkner back to the bowling crease.

Kohli then put his bat where his mouth was, hitting a run-a-ball 117 before John Hastings limited the damage, removing both Kohli and M.S. Dhoni.

The 27-year-old's effort was not enough to help India secure their first win of the series, with their 6/295 getting pipped by Australia's 7/296 for a insurmountable 3-0 lead in the five-match series.

Batsman Glenn Maxwell's 96 for 83 balls helped steer Australia home with three wickets and seven balls in hand in front of an India-dominated crowd of 47,638 at the MCG.
