McNamee revealed Cricket ACT has had a sub-committee working behind the scenes on a business plan for a BBL franchise if and when the BBL grows.

CA chief executive James Sutherland told Fairfax Media in March this year that "expansion is years away", but McNamee said Cricket ACT was poised to react quickly when it does.

Canberra will host this summer's BBL final at Manuka Oval on January 28, a highlight in a huge summer that will commence with next month's One day International between Australian and South Africa. Cricket ACT will launch ticket sales to the BBL final on Monday.

McNamee said a sub-committee representing Cricket ACT, comprising at least seven individuals, had been doing background work on a potential BBL team since the competition started in 2011.

"We set in place a board of management, a working group, as part of our business plan," McNamee said. "It's a group that's been selected for their professional acumen. They've been selected because of their business contacts, particularly some in the financial market.

"We have the expertise to go forward ... if it was expanded, we have a board of management in place to move straight away."

"If we did get a tap on the shoulder, we were asked to put in a bid, we are ready to roll."

Cricket ACT has been audacious about its aims to return to the top tier of domestic cricket, also looking to re-enter a team in the domestic one day competition as early as 2015-16.

McNamee said Cricket ACT's board would be proactive, this month appointing Liz Barrington-Smith as the first female secretary since the association began in 1922.

Barrington-Smith, owner of The Good Guys store in Tuggeranong, is just the second woman to serve on the Cricket ACT board.

Born in Zimbabwe, Barrington-Smith has been based in Canberra since 1995 and heavily involved in the Tuggeranong Valley Cricket Club.

"It's a tremendous time to get an opportunity to be on the board, to be a part of that change and be a part of the developments that are happening," Barrington-Smith said.

Barrington-Smith felt it was important to provide a female perspective on sporting boards.

"Definitely, 100 per cent," she said. "You see it happening more across a number of sports. We should have a role and a say in what happens in cricket too, I think it's really valuable to have women involved at this level."
