Cricket ACT has confirmed its interest in being involved in the inaugural women's Twenty20 Big Bash League when it gets underway in the 2015-16 season.

A Cricket Australia spokesperson said on Saturday that plans would be made to establish the tournament with the aim of becoming the leading women's domestic competition in Australia.
Details such as the structure of the tournament, commercial deals, and the number of teams participating are still to be discussed, but a mix of double-headers alongside the men's matches and stand-alone fixtures could be expected.
The ACT Meteors were the runners-up in the Women's National Cricket League Twenty20 competition last season, but the ACT doesn't have a team in the men's BBL, although it is keen to put in a bid when expansion beyond the current eight teams is on the table.
Cricket ACT chief executive Mark Vergano said the performances of the Meteors since their inception in 2009 had shown that Canberra would be capable of having a women's BBL team.
"Anything that we can put in place to raise the promotion and standard of women's cricket is terrific and we're very supportive,'' Vergano said.
"We're very proud of what we've developed over the last five years with the women's game in Canberra.
"Seeing the likes of Rene Farrell break back into the Australian team shows the level of talent we've been able to unearth and the opportunity this gives female cricketers in the ACT and the region.''
Farrell's outstanding performances for the Meteors were recognised on Saturday night when she claimed the Bronwyn Calver Medal as the Meteors' player of the year.
Farrell finished on 220 votes, with Sara Hungerford in second on 161 and Sam Bates completing the top three on 135.
Farrell scored 371 runs at an average of 20.6 to go with 22 wickets at 21.45, with the best bowling figures of 5-11.
All-rounder Vele Dukoski took out the Peter Solway Medal as the ACT Comets player of the year to go with his Futures League player of the year honour.
Dukoski scored 314 runs at 39.25 and took 16 wickets at 17 with the best bowling figures of 6-41 including a hat-trick, earning 84 votes to collect the award ahead of Shane Devoy (45) and Michael Spaseski (35).
In other awards, Lain Beckett collected the Luke Bush rising star award as the best youth male cricketer, female youth player of the year went to Alana Ryan and the Billy Floros Medal for the indoor cricket player of the year went to Vinesh Bennett.
