But the ACT Comets representative held his nerve in a thrilling one-run victory against Wests/UC in their John Gallop Cup match on Saturday.
Devoy took five wickets at Chisholm Oval in the perfect warm-up before Thursday's practice match with the Sydney Thunder at ANZ Stadium.
However it almost went awry as Karl Vendrasco (26 not out) and Angus Polhill (14) combined to hit 14 runs from the first five balls of the final over in chasing Tuggeranong's total of 8-274.
Needing two for victory off the last ball, Devoy pitched it full and knocked over Polhill's stumps as Wests/UC finished on 8-273.
''I thought we were cooked, absolutely cooked,'' Devoy said.
''I bowled the fastest yorker I could possibly find.
''It was a pretty pressurised situation and it's nice to come out on top for once.''
The nail-biting finish continues an impressive season for Devoy, who claimed nine wickets in an innings for the Comets in last month's Futures League match with South Australia.
He will get the chance to test himself against former Test batsman Mike Hussey and Sri Lankan master blaster Tillakaratne Dilshan in the game with the Thunder.
''The ball's coming out well and it's nice to come out and contribute,'' Devoy said.
''The game against the Thunder will be a good opportunity against some international players and some of the best players in the country.''
Comets teammate and Thunder supplementary player Blake Dean is also in great nick after scoring 100 from just 119 balls for Queanbeyan, but it was not enough to prevent a four-wicket loss to Weston Creek Molonglo.
Veteran Cade Brown produced an unbeaten 74 from 99 balls as Weston Creek reached 6-213 in reply to Queanbeyan's total of 212 with nine balls to spare.
Eastlake recorded its third straight win in the competition with a comprehensive seven-wicket victory over North Canberra Gungahlin.
Veteran spinner Michael Shaw took 4-20 and Steven Van Riet chipped in with 3-13 to bowl Norths out for 130 at Harrison.
Eastlake (3-132) passed the total with more than 26 overs to spare, captain Michael Spaseski top-scoring with 40.
At ANU North Oval, a half century from in-form batsman Sam Gaskin propelled Ginninderra to a four-wicket victory over ANU.
