Eastlake undaunted

Eastlake will be looking to dust the cobwebs out of a barren trophy cabinet when it takes on Queanbeyan in the John Gallop Trophy one-day final at Manuka Oval tomorrow.

The club has not won a trophy since claiming the Douglas Cup two-day competition in 2004-05 and the has not made a final since the 2005-06 season.

In stark contrast, Queanbeyan has been dominant with its bulging trophy cabinet already holding the Douglas Cup and the John Gallop Trophy from wins last season.

The Bluebags have already added the SCG Country Cup to their impressive collection this season.

The only trophy missing for Queanbeyan is the Twenty20 competition after losing last year's final to Tuggeranong but the Bluebags could still add that after winning through to final last week.

Despite Queanbeyan's recent dominance Eastlake came out on top in their early season one-day match, claiming a four-wicket victory, a result that has Eastlake captain Adam Tett confident of causing an upset.

''They are the benchmark but I think our boys have played really well so far. We have beaten Queanbeyan ... and I think the main thing is to keep the momentum going from what we have done so far,'' Tett said.

''They are the best side on paper for sure but they are beatable.''

Queanbeyan boasts a star-studded line-up with seven members of the ACT Comets who lost to NSW during the week playing in the game.

Captain Aaron Ayre said his team's experience will be a big factor in the final.

''We have all played a grand final before and we have all played one this season, so we know how to calm the nerves. So we just look at it as another game and another win that we need to get on the board,'' Ayre said.

''[Eastlake] got us first round and obviously it gave us a bit of a kick up the rear end to get going in our season and the boys responded to that.''

Both captains labelled the battle between the spinners as a crucial element in the one-day final.

The two teams will also face off in the two-day Douglas Cup competition today before tomorrow's final.

Due to weather no play was able to occur so the match will be become an extended one day-game.

''It will be a good opportunity to get the cobwebs out after a week off but obviously the focus for us is on Sunday,'' Tett said.

In other first grade matches today Weston Creek resume 18 runs behind Norths' first innings total of 107 with eight wickets still in hand. Meanwhile, ANU resumes at 8-178 against Ginninderra and WestsUC and Tuggeranong will start their rain affected match after the sides didn't get on the field last weekend.
