Indian cricketer scores 1000 in one innings in schoolboy match

Forget the arrival at three figures as being the ultimate for a batter in cricket, an Indian schoolboy has shocked the world by scoring 1000 runs - in one innings.

Mumbai school cricketer Pranav Dhanawade achieved what had seemed impossible while playing for KC Gandhi School against Arya Gurukul during the H.T. Bhandari Cup tournament.

Indian teenager scores 1009 runs

15-year-old cricketer Pranav Dhanawade is celebrating after scoring the highest ever individual score in a competitive match.

The 15-year-old, who was an amazing 652 not out at the end of the first day of play, went about scoring the final 348 runs required for the milestone before reaching the mind-boggling score of 1009 not out.

His tally was almost 400 clear of previous record holder Arthur Collins, who had scored 628 not out in a Junior House Match in England 117 years ago.

The concluding stages of Dhanawade's knock were watched by his father Prashant.

"I reached there as he was just reaching the milestone of 300," Prashant Dhanawade told the Hindustan Times.

"I was nervous throughout, but was just happy to see my son batting."

Prashan said the Dhanawade family had made many sacrifices to help the teen over the years.

"There's a lot of talent in our area but we lack proper facilities for children to play and get trained," he told Times of India. "For this reason, when Pranav turned nine, I enrolled him for coaching at MIG in Bandra.

"I would drive my rickshaw in the morning and then we'd leave for MIG in the afternoon and return at night.

"Cricket equipment costs a lot of money. I have tried to find sponsors for my son but on one occasion I was told that he first needs to make a name for himself."

Heading into the second day, Dhanawade wasn't shy in suggesting he was chasing four-figures.

"Why not? I am confident that I can do it," Pranav said, according to DNA India.

"I will definitely try to score 1,000 runs as I am just 350 away. If I can score 600 runs in two sessions, I am confident of scoring 350 in one session."

It is understood the bowling attack from the Arya Gurukul side were not as enamoured with the record-shattering display – a match in which the KC Gandhi side reached 2-1148.
