Injury rules Lyon out of PM's XI

Test spinner Nathan Lyon has been ruled out of the Prime Minister's XI side to take on Sri Lanka at Manuka Oval on Friday due to injury.

The Canberra product suffered a leg injury during Australia's crushing fourth Test victory over India at Adelaide Oval last week.

Lyon has been replaced in the line-up by Queensland leg-spinner Cameron Boyce.

It is expected the injury will sideline the 24-year-old for about two weeks.

The timing could not be any worse for Lyon, who took a series-best 4-63 in India's second innings, including the prized scalp of Sachin Tendulkar.

The off-spinner was looking forward to returning to his old stomping ground for the first time since his days with the ACT Comets.

Meanwhile, Brad Haddin's chances of playing in the next World Cup in 2015 took another hit after he was left out of Australia's one day team for the first three games against India and Sri Lanka this summer.

National Selector John Inverarity said Victorian Matthew Wade would take his place as wicket keeper for the first three games. He said Haddin was being rested and scheduled to return to the squad later in the series.

"Brad Haddin has come off a heavy program of Test cricket - the workload for a wicketkeeper/batsman is rigourous and resting him for the start of the series will refresh him for coming international commitments while also giving us a chance to look at Matt Wade at this level," he said.
