Whether his teammates are vying for a Big Bash League title, or fighting to keep their Sheffield Shield hopes alive, it never gets easier.

A stress fracture in his left fibula left Behrendorff on crutches just days after being earmarked as a potential Test bolter in November.

Three months later, after two club games with Subiaco and two Futures League games with WA, Behrendorff has resurfaced on the first-class scene.

The left-armer has been named in WA's 13-man squad for a Sheffield Shield clash with Victoria at the WACA Ground.

The best thing is Behrendorff's body is feeling good, and he is ready to tear into the Victorian batting line-up with WA's season on the line.

"We feel like at the moment we've got nothing to lose," Behrendorff said.

"We're playing good, fearless cricket and that's something that we're working really hard on, staying tight as a group and making sure that we're doing everything we can to win games of cricket for WA."

Behrendorff was "very close" to being an unlikely call-up for the Perth Scorchers in the BBL final against the Sydney Sixers last month.

Almost everyone had put a line through Behrendorff's name before a good spell in the nets threw a spanner in the works and had the Tuggeranong junior back in the frame for selection.

"It was one of those line ball decisions that probably a few days out from the game, no one - probably not even myself - thought that I was a chance," Behrendorff said.

"A few things changed in about 24 to 48 hours and I started training with the main squad and bowled quite well and felt good. I basically said to the coaches 'I'm fine. I reckon I'm ready to go if you want to pick me'."

Behrendorff was eventually left out, with concerns about a lack of cricket in the lead up to a do-or-die game ultimately making the decision for the selectors.

And the 26-year-old knew no nets session was going to make up for match practice - spending a whole day in the field and backing up for spell after spell - but this time he returns with plenty of it.

"I've been able to have that ease-in period," Behrendorff said.

"Now that I've played a couple of second XI games and that sort of thing, that ease-in period was really beneficial and now I can go for it again.

"If it was more a rushed preparation, sometimes you feel like you have to go for it from the get go and sometimes that can have an adverse affect."
