But the Newcastle junior is determined to shake off his pre-game jitters to show how much his skills have developed since moving to the capital in July.
The Comets will begin their Futures League campaign today with a match against the NSW second XI. It is a chance for Canberra's top cricketers to impress state selectors in the hope of making the leap to Sheffield Shield and the domestic one-day competition.
McClintock played for the ACT under-19s team despite living in Newcastle last year, and he made an off-season decision to move to Canberra to chase his cricketing dream.
The teenager will take over from Queanbeyan star Aaron Ayre as wicket-keeper and is hopeful of making a strong contribution with the bat after scoring 54 not out for Wests in the Twenty20 competition last weekend.
''I'm a bit nervous but I'm really looking forward to the opportunity and excited for it,'' McClintock, 19, said.
''I just wanted to take my cricket further and try to go down that path with the Comets … I've still got a lot of nerves.''
McClintock is one of three players making their debut, with Josh Connolly and Greg West also playing their first games for the Comets.
