It was the response the Meteors' relieved coach, Andrew Dawson, was looking for, noting the boost in self-confidence among his players.

''Also, the language with the girls, [they've been] critiquing themselves fairly strongly, so that's been pleasing as well,'' Dawson said.

In Friday's Twenty20 match, the Meteors surpassed the Scorpions' 104 runs in the 16th over, with captain Kris Britt stepping up to score an unbeaten 48 off 45 balls.

''Kris Britt has been very strong with the group that we've got to make sure lessons are learnt from Blacktown [where the Meteors played NSW], and she keeps on trying to push the group to have higher expectations of themselves,'' Dawson said.

The only downside to the match was an injury to Lynsey Askew, who was hit in the shin fielding at short cover, but X-rays cleared her of any fractures.

Askew was rested for yesterday's one-day match, in which the Meteors had to chase a target of 172. Rhiannon Dick did most of the damage with the ball, taking 3-27.

Half-centuries to opener Laura Wright (78) and Sara Hungerford (61 not out) allowed the Meteors to take the win in the 33rd over, ensuring a bonus point for winning in fewer than 40 overs.

Both wickets in the 2-173 response were run-outs, but Dawson was not too concerned.

''Asha [Smith]'s run-out was self-induced, there was an lbw shout against her and Ash went slightly wandering out of her crease,'' he said.

Wright's dismissal came pushing for runs during a power play for the bonus point.

Dawson wants his team to continue the momentum into today's Twenty20 fixture.
