The Black Caps will provide formidable opposition for captain Michael Hussey and the PM's XI under lights at Manuka Oval on October 23.

Blewett will be at the helm of the PM's XI, with recently-retired fast bowler Ryan Harris named as the assistant coach.

The pair will also oversee the Cricket Australia XI for its two-day match against New Zealand at Manuka Oval on October 24-25.

Apart from Hussey, the rest of the PM's XI team is set to be announced early next week when the finalists of the Matador Cup are decided.

Siddle would be a fantastic addition given he has been surprisingly overlooked for the Victorian team in the one-day format.

The 30-year-old, who has taken 198 Test wickets at an average of 29.87, was recalled to the Australian team for the fifth Test of this year's Ashes series.

He will be in the mix for the opening Test of this summer at the Gabba on November 5, but needs to get some match practice under his belt.

Blewett said Siddle's name had been tossed around in discussions for the PM's XI team.

"There is a little bit chat around the moment that Peter Siddle might get a run because he hasn't played for Victoria yet," Blewett said.

"It'd be nice to have him.

"From all reports, the side is going to be fairly experienced, so I think we'll have a side capable of beating New Zealand."

The PM's XI team will be picked out of the four teams that don't make the finals of the Matador Cup.

Australian coach Darren Lehmann has made it clear he wants the PM's XI to strike an early blow on the Kiwis ahead of the Test series.

"From the initial chats I've had with Darren, he wants to pick a side that can beat New Zealand," Blewett said.

"If we don't win, I don't think it's the end of the world because New Zealand are a very good side, which they showed by making the final of the World Cup.

"It would give NZ a little bit more confidence if they win, so we'd love to knock them off."

Blewett has a long history with the PM's XI game having played in the match three times, including captaining the side in 2001.

That's not the case for Harris, who admitted he regretted not having had the chance to take part in the fixture.

"It's a fantastic occasion. I've never been part of a PM's game - it's exciting particularly given we will get to meet a new Prime Minister," Harris said.

"To represent your Prime Minister against another side was a goal of mine.

"We are using the pink ball so that will be a spectacle too, and it'll be important to hear the player feedback as we get closer to the day/night Test."

About 4000 tickets have been sold for the game so far.
