Although the players and coaching staff won't publicly claim they're over the line, only the most remote of miracles from Western Australia will deny the Blues having their name inscribed on the Sheffield Shield trophy.

Apart from a sluggish one-hour session on Monday which produced 13 wins runs and a wicket, the NSW batsmen spent the rest of the day putting their feet up and watching the precious hours tick by.

Providing the constant rain goes away, the Blues will resume at 3-59 with an overall lead of 326 runs and still seven wickets in the shed.

Sitting around playing cards, indoor volleyball and chasing a Frisbee around aren't the way any team wants to win a competition.

But when you haven't won the most prestigious trophy in Australian domestic cricket since 2007-08, you take the victories any way you can.

The Blues have been in total control of this game irrespective of the delay after they took a 267-run lead on the first innings.

While the Blues would have loved to see every drop of rain fall from the sky, the Warriors were left to lament what could have been.

Warriors captain Adam Voges hasn't thrown in the towel and even toyed with the idea of promoting Shaun and Mitch Marsh up the batting order in the off chance they have a run chase.

"It's incredibly frustrating, obviously we had a long way to try and claw our way back into the game, but this weather hasn't helped," Voges said.

"We'll be realistic, the chances are slim, but we've got to hang on to that slim hope.

"If we can get seven wickets, we'll throw the (Marsh brothers) up the top and let them have a licence."

Having seen a couple of batting collapses already in the match, Blues coach Trevor Bayliss didn't want to celebrate prematurely.

"We're obviously in a very good position," Bayliss said.

"But you just never know do you? We lost 5-25 in the first innings.

"That would give the opposition a sniff and you never know what could happen."

Canberra product Jason Behrendorff (2-30) continued his strong game for the Warriors, taking the only wicket of the brief morning session on Monday.

Behrendorff, who claimed four wickets in the first innings, enticed a nick from the bat of Ben Rohrer (27) and into the safe hands of wicket-keeper Sam Whiteman.

Play is scheduled to begin at 10am to make up for the lost time.

Blues spinner Stephen O'Keefe won't mind that his wallet will be a little lighter if they can as expected lifted the precious silverware.

O'Keefe was fined 20 per cent of his match fee for breaching Cricket Australia's code of behaviour on day two of the final.

He accepted the punishment for abuse of equipment in the player's race after he was given out on a contentious leg before wicket decision on Saturday.

The Blues will claim the title if the match is a draw because they finished on top of the table.
