Mark Solway has his fingers crossed older sibling Dean doesn't want to exact revenge for their backyard battles at the Australian under-19 championships in Adelaide, starting Monday.

With Dean having moved to Adelaide in the off-season to join the Redbacks Academy, it's a rare chance for the Queanbeyan pair to be reunited in an ACT team.

It's the second straight year they've played together in the under-19 side, but the first where Dean will have the (c) next to his name.

Mark has a simple solution if he's given the dreaded task.

''I might be walking off the field,'' he laughed.

''He knows where I like to field … I won't let him boss me around.''

There's little chance of that, with the 17-year-old off-spinner giving as good as he gets ever since taking on Dean growing up.

He's eager to follow in his brother's footsteps and use this carnival as a stepping stone to earning a contract interstate.

''Seeing the big brother do it is definitely an incentive,'' Mark said. ''It's a pretty big step up, from the junior stuff to playing against the best 19-year-old's in the country.

''You get hit if you bowl bad balls, so you've got to be on the money.''

Dean is hoping to go out with a bang in his third and final national under-19 championships, a month after facing Sri Lanka as part of the Chairman's XI at Manuka Oval.

Having scored heavily for the ACT Comets in the Futures League, he'll play a crucial role if the ACT is going to mount a serious challenge for the title.

''I think we've got a very good bowling group, the challenge for us is putting competitive scores on the board in every game,'' Dean said. ''We've got the batting group to do it, so it's just about applying ourselves and giving it a red-hot crack.''

The Australian under-19 championships start in Adelaide on Monday and run until January 17.
