Condon's 104 off 139 balls set up Wests for a first innings total of 293, with Weston Creek on 4-76 at stumps.

Playing his first season in the top grade, the teenager was promoted up the order after opening for the ACT under-17 side and hasn't looked back.

"He wanted to bat up there, so we've thrown him in," Wests captain Ben Oakley said.

"It was a couple of games before Christmas and he's pretty much scored runs every time he's gone out … I think he's cemented his spot up there now.

"He's got an unbelievable head on his shoulders, the way he thinks about the game and then the patience he has when he's out in the middle, his maturity level playing cricket is far beyond his years."

At Kingston Oval, Eastlake's Nick Winter showed why he was named 12th man for the Prime Ministers' XI, taking seven wickets for the day, including his first five-wicket haul in first grade. Winter's opening innings figures of 5-26 helped dismiss Ginninderra for 88, with Eastlake declaring on 9-138 to chase the outright victory.

Winter took 2-5 from his six overs in Ginninderra's second innings, the visitors four down with just a 10-run lead at stumps.

With fast bowlers in high demand in the Australian squad, Eastlake captain Adam Tett was cautious when asked about Winter's potential.

"He's bowling very well, but I think he's just taking it one step at a time for the moment,'' Tett said.

"[The PMs XI] is a great opportunity for him, it will be a good experience to be exposed to those players at that level, a great experience for him as a young bloke."

Queanbeyan's Josh Connolly also took seven wickets, all in the one innings against North Canberra/Gungahlin.

Connolly's 7-47 off 25.4 overs at Freebody Oval helped dismiss Norths for 135.

Queanbeyan held a 27-run lead with three wickets in hand at the conclusion of day one.

At ANU, the students won the toss and sent Tuggeranong into bat. At stumps they were on 9-250.
