Chasing Ginninderra's imposing total of 5-247, Tuggeranong was in all sorts of trouble in the one-day encounter at 2-31.
However, Thornton (127 not out) and Barrington (87 not out) combined for a 220-run stand, steering Tuggeranong (2-251) to an eight-wicket win at Chisholm Oval.
It was a much-needed boost for Tuggeranong after Saturday's agonising one-wicket loss to Wests/UC, while Ginninderra burst out of the gates after its resounding upset of Queanbeyan. Ryan Carmichael laid the platform with a classy 94 while Rhys Healy chipped in with a handy 53.
Ginniderra made the perfect start with the ball, sending Justin Haywood (21) and Matt Floros (six) on their way quickly to take the upper hand.
But Thornton - whose dad Glenn died from a heart attack while playing in a Tuggeranong lower-grade game in October - and Barrington dominated the bowling to reach the target with two overs to spare.
Batting was more difficult at ANU North as Eastlake ripped through the hosts for a paltry 59 en route to a six-wicket victory.
Half-centuries to Darren Richards (82) and Joseph Cooke (62) and a four-wicket haul to Alex Taylor helped Wests/UC (269) complete a perfect weekend with a 41-run win over Queanbeyan (228) at Jamison.
Weston Creek had an all-round performance from Harry Medhurst to thank for its 20-run win against North Canberra Gungahlin at Stirling.
Medhurst top-scored with 69 in Weston Creek's total of 191, before claiming 3-35 with the ball to hold the opposition to 171.
