Canberra's annual fix of international cricket has been called off without a ball being bowled, with rain forcing the cancellation of the one-day match between the Prime Minister's XI and Sri Lanka.
Manuka Oval ground staff worked all morning to rid the ground of excess water but steady showers gave officials no choice but to call the game off just after 1pm.
The latest time play could have begun was 3pm, when the match would be reduced to a Twenty20 fixture.
Fans who have purchased tickets will receive a full refund.
Cricket ACT chief executive Mark Vergano had had his fingers crossed the rain wouldn't force the second washout in the game's history.
"Looking at the radar at the moment, there's residual rain but not much after that,'' he told ABC Radio this morning.
