Lyon's shock defection to NSW came on the same day promising left-arm paceman Winter secured a rookie contract with the Redbacks.
Redbacks coach Darren Berry admitted Lyon's switch caught him off-guard after the former Manuka Oval groundsman got his big break with South Australia two years ago.
''I can't hide my extreme disappointment,'' Berry said. ''Personally I have invested a lot of time in Nathan and I feel the South Australian Cricket Association has given Nathan an enormous platform to launch his career.
''However, Nathan has left for personal family reasons and we have absolute respect for Nathan and the reasons he has chosen to leave.''
Winter will move to Adelaide after standout seasons with the Comets in the Futures League and for Eastlake in the Canberra first-grade competition. The 19-year-old was also 12th man for the Prime Minister's XI in its match against the West Indies in January, and a week later was given fielding duties for Michael Clarke's Australian side on his home ground.
He is one of two Canberra products to have a rookie deal with the Redbacks, along with batsman Alex Ross.
Another former Comet, Dean Solway, is in South Australia's Academy program, while Sam Miller made a couple of appearances for the Redbacks in the Sheffield Shield last summer. ''It'll make the transition a tiny bit easier knowing a few of those boys,'' Winter said.
''My goal is to do well in the grade competition and if any opportunities pop up in the Sheffield Shield or Ryobi Cup then I think I'll be second in line in terms of left-arm bowling [behind Gary Putland]''.
Meanwhile, former Tuggeranong paceman Jason Behrendorff and Weston Creek's John Rogers have received full contracts with Western Australia.
