Preparations for the first day-night Ashes Test are ramping up with Australia locked in a tight battle with an ACT Invitational XI at Manuka Oval.
It's Australia's only chance to get acquainted with the pink ball ahead of next week's historic North Sydney Oval blockbuster, in which the host nation could almost secure an Ashes triumph.
The pink ball under lights has been a topic of debate ever since the first men's day-night Test and Cheatle quickly noticed it was swinging much later than the average Kookaburra.
It's got the 18-year-old raring to wreak havoc against the English in her looming debut - which is also Australia's first Test since 2015.
"I can't wait to bowl under lights again. I think it was really fun [on Friday night] to get a bit under lights, we got four early poles which is really great to see," Cheatle said.
"Unfortunately we didn't really carry it on for our whole innings, they got a bit away from us at the end there, but before that we were right on top with the ball so it's really exciting.
"Coming into this Test match at North Sydney there's going to be massive hype around it. Having this game under our belt, it's going to be a really big advantage for us."
The Australians are 2-126 in the second innings, with Elyse Villani (48) and Rachael Haynes (13) unbeaten, with a lead of 108 runs heading into the final day of their only Test warm-up.
The ACT declared at 7-290 in response to Australia's first innings total of 8-272 (declared), and Cheatle says batting clearly became more difficult when the lights took effect.
Cheatle finished with 1-48 but the day belonged to ACT batter Angela Reakes, who plundered a magnificent unbeaten 103* to send Australian selectors a reminder of her attacking prowess.
Cheatle claimed ACT batter Katie Mack with her first ball late on day one and she is desperate to make a similar impact in the biggest game of her career.
Donning the baggy green in an Ashes Test is the childhood dream of kids nationwide and their rarity in the women's game will make Cheatle's impending debut more special.
"We only play one once every two years so it's a pretty exciting thing to be a part of," Cheatle said.
"They're really rare so these games are really important to get another one under the belt because we really don't play much Test match cricket. Playing it is really exciting and seeing everyone in whites is so different."
Australian coach Matthew Mott may be a step closer to settling on his XI for the crucial clash with his top order looking promising against the pink ball late on day two.
England gave up a first innings lead in their first taste of pink ball cricket against a Cricket Australia XI outfit in Blacktown, thanks to a spirited Naomi Stalenberg century (114).
The warm-up games are the only chance players will get to use the unpredictable pink ball before the Test that could edge Australia closer to glory.
"I think there was massive hype coming into this and it's definitely lived up," Cheatle said.
"It's definitely really different with the pink ball, it was really exciting to bowl with to start with but we found out it does get pretty old by 80 overs and you do want a new one. It's a really cool experience fielding under lights with a pink ball, it's been really exciting."
