With three games in the space of a week, the current league leader has hand-picked seven players from throughout the rest of the competition it wants for its squad against Malaysia.

Canberra FC holds a slender two-point lead over Canberra Olympic at the top of the table and takes on Tuggeranong United at Kambah on Sunday.

That is followed by the match with Malaysia on Thursday night, rounded out less than 48 hours later with a clash with Woden Valley on Saturday.

Canberra FC secretary Rad Trpkovski said the historic fixture was the perfect chance for the best players in the competition to test themselves against an international opponent.

''One of the conditions for bringing the Malaysians to Canberra FC was that we include six other National Premier League players from other clubs, plus one player from the AIS,'' Trpkovski said.

''We've identified those seven players and we'll be in contact with those players to invite them to be part of the event.

''It's all about providing a great opportunity not just for our players but the other boys, bringing an international side to Canberra and promoting the game.''

Malaysia will be hoping for a more successful showing than its most recent outing in Canberra - a 5-0 flogging by the Socceroos at Canberra Stadium in 2011.

The world ranked 161 is using its three-game tour of Australia as preparation for its coming qualifiers for the 2015 Asian Cup. The 26-strong Malaysian squad will arrive in Canberra on Monday and has also locked in games against Marconi and Sydney United.

Meanwhile, Capital Football remains in negotiations with Football Federation Australia about securing a Socceroos match in Canberra this year as part of Centenary celebrations.

There are also talks for the Central Coast Mariners to bring their round six A-League fixture against Wellington in December to Canberra Stadium.

Meanwhile, Belconnen United moved to third on the Canberra National Premier League ladder with a clinical 3-0 win against the AIS on Saturday at McKellar Park.

Michael Taurasi's first-half goal was followed by strikes after the break to Dustin Wells and David Kemp.

It was the seventh win from 12 games this season for the Blue Devils and elevated the defending league champions to 21 points, just three behind league leaders Canberra FC.

''We knew AIS are a young side and were going to come out at us at 100 miles an hour, so we had a strategy to sit and wait for their mistakes,'' Blue Devils coach Lui Gaspari said.

Canberra FC has two games in hand on the Blue Devils, and can extend its advantage when the side takes on Tuggeranong United at Kambah.

In Sunday's other games, Canberra Olympic hosts Monaro Panthers at O'Connor and Canberra City plays Woden Valley at Hawker. LEE GASKIN
