Georgia Yeoman-Dale, Sally Rojahn, Grace Field, Catherine Brown and Meg McLaughlin are part of a new-look Young Matildas squad to contest a three-match series with South Korea, starting on Sunday at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra.

The international friendlies are an important chance to build combinations before October's Asian championships, where the top three teams book their spots for next year's women's under-20s World Cup in Canada.

With the ACT Academy of Sport producing more than 20 per cent of the Young Matildas squad, Yeoman-Dale said the strong representation was a credit to the development systems and ACTAS coach Ray Junna.

''I'd say it's probably a record to have five Canberra girls in one squad,'' Yeoman-Dale said.

Yeoman-Dale is one of the more experienced players in the squad, having been a part of a Matildas camp earlier this year.

That recognition came after the 19-year-old made a successful transition from attack to defence for Canberra United.

She will return to her preferred left-wing spot for the Young Matildas, but coach Spencer Prior said her versatility added a valuable string to her bow.

''I thought she did great as a right back, but we'll use her predominantly in her more favoured position,'' Prior said.

''We stuck her in our leadership group because she is prepared to say it as it is out on the pitch and shows great character.''

Along with Yeoman-Dale, Rojahn, McLaughlin, Brown and Field all showed their potential in the W-League.

Rojahn is a promising centre midfielder, Brown is a left-back and Field is a tenacious central defender, while McLaughlin provides plenty of speed on the wing.

Prior plans to rotate his squad through the three games, with the first and last fixtures scheduled as full internationals. The midweek encounter will be used as a trial.

''We've had a few camps since the W-League finished, but these are our first games against international opposition.

''We're still a little bit away from the Asian Cup, so I'm keen just to see where we're at.''
