Coming to Canberra ... Hayley Raso of Australia and Abby Erceg of New Zealand contest possession. It's believed the two sides will play each other in June.

The Matildas are expected to be announced on Thursday as the latest Australian team to play in Canberra this year as part of the city's centenary celebrations.

They will face New Zealand in June at either McKellar Park or the AIS in at least one or possibly two matches.

The only sticking point is securing television coverage of at least one of the games with the ABC.

It continues the trans-Tasman theme of sporting contests in the ACT this year.

The fierce rivals will square off in a rugby league Test at Canberra Stadium next Friday, while the powerhouses of world netball will take to the AIS Arena in October.

Negotiations to attract a Socceroos international for the second half of the year are continuing, but will depend on whether Australia qualifies for next year's World Cup in Brazil.

There is also the issue of securing the services of the Socceroos' overseas-based contingent during the peak of the European season.

Australia's under-20s women's team, the Young Matildas, will be in Canberra for a three-game series with South Korea, starting at the AIS on Sunday.
