At 38, Schroder is the old head in an otherwise youthful Olympic outfit on the verge of moving to the top of the Canberra National Premier League.

Second-placed Olympic will go in as heavy favourite to collect all three points when it takes on lowly Canberra City at the Hawker Football Centre on Saturday.

While he hasn't thought about the dreaded r-word, Schroder admits retirement could be on the cards if Olympic can go all the way and claim the silverware.

''If we win it this year, it would give my wife ammunition for me to quit,'' he laughed.

''Winning a title would mean everything. I've been in maybe five grand finals, including Fed Cup finals, and haven't won one yet.''

Schroder, who remains a critical cog in the Olympic midfield, made his Premier League debut with the now-defunct Juventus in 2000. Stints at Belconnen United and Tuggeranong United followed before he made the switch to Olympic in 2006.

Originally slated to play at right back this season, Schroder's versatility has allowed him to play anywhere from the midfield to out wide and even in a more attacking role leading the line. His experience has been vital with an influx of quality youngsters adding plenty of pace across the park.

''Guys like Josh Gaspari, Nathan Tidmarsh and Chris Nikitas are doing well and it keeps me going,'' he said. ''It means I can use my head a bit more and don't have to run as much.''

Olympic has also been well served by classy midfielder Robbie Deeley, who is in his third season after coming across from Otago United in New Zealand.

Deeley, who captained the ACT Rockets in their match with A-League side Newcastle Jets last year, believes Olympic is capable of ending its title drought and upstaging the likes of Canberra FC and the Cooma Tigers.

''I think we can go all the way,'' he said. ''Everyone's playing well and it's a good vibe this year. I think it'll come down to the last round.''
