Tigers underline premiership credentials

THE Cooma Tigers reasserted their ACT Premier League title credentials with a 4-1 thrashing of Tuggeranong United at Kambah yesterday.

Three second-half goals secured the Tigers their 10th win of the campaign and keeps them in second place on the table, eight points behind frontrunners Belconnen United.

Although the Blue Devils have the league title just about sewn up with four rounds remaining after this weekend, Tigers coach Gaby Wilk knows his side can cause some damage if it qualifies for the finals.

The Tigers will also get the double chance if they can hold off traditional powerhouse Canberra FC, which is three points back in third but has a game in hand.

''To make the top four is not very easy,'' Wilk said.

''It's very hard playing at the [Kambah] ground, it's very small.

''We weren't really tested but I was really pleased with the way we went about it.''

The Tigers were predicted to make light work of a Tuggeranong outfit already out of finals contention, and that's exactly what they did.

The visitors had three goals disallowed in the opening 20 minutes.

However, it was only a matter of time before the dam wall burst, star striker Robbie Cattanach getting the ball rolling with a superb free kick in the 38th minute. Alex Castro doubled the Tigers' advantage with a gorgeous header from Stephen Domenici's free kick.

Alex Oloriegbe and Bruno Colucciello completed the rout before Mark Shields slotted home from the penalty spot with the last kick of the game to give Tuggeranong some reward for their day's work.
