Record-breaking Paralympic swimmer Jacqui Freney probably set another less desirable record for the shortest homecoming.

Freney, who won an Australian record eight gold medals at one Paralympics in London, was feted with teammates at an official welcome home at Sydney airport after they flew back yesterday.

However, she was catching a return flight all the way back to London just six hours later to join in a family holiday.

While delighted with the reception - and her burgeoning frequent flyer points - Freney cheerfully admitted it was ''crazy''.

'It's a part of team policy that I had to be here for a reception, and I'm glad I came,'' Freney said.

''But I have to go back for a holiday because half of my family is still overseas waiting for me to get off that plane.''

At least Freney got to travel business class back to Sydney, enabling her to get some sleep, though she said she would do some walking before her return flight.

The swimmer displayed just one gold medal upon her return, leaving the remainder of her bullion with her grandparents in London. AAP
