The 23-year-old American rose to international fame when at 13, she became the youngest ever golfer to qualify for an LPGA tour event.
At 14, she finished in top 20 in six of the seven LPGA events she entered that year, including fourth at a major championship.
Wie turned professional in 2004, just before her 16th birthday, and when she received a sponsors’ exemption into the men’s Sony Open in Hawaii, she became the youngest woman in history to play a PGA tour event
She went on to shoot the lowest ever round by a woman that tournament, with a 68 in the second round.
While her form waned in her early years as a professional, Wie is a two-time winner on the LPGA tour and has finished in the top-three of every major championship.
She will join Cheyenne Woods, niece of Tiger, defending champion Jessica Korda, world number one Yani Tseng and four-time winner Karrie Webb on the fairways of the Royal Canberra Golf Club.
