The flying four-year-old was a good thing beaten in the group 1 at Caulfield last start, held up at the top of the straight before letting down with his trademark finish to narrowly miss the winner's cheque.

Dale admitted after the race the loss would have been easier to take if Fell Swoop had lost by a bigger margin, but three weeks on and his charge is ready for redemption in the $700,000 group 1 Galaxy (1100-metres) at Rosehill.

"We're rapt with the way he's going after Melbourne, he's pulled up really well off the back of that run so the preparation leading in to the race has been faultless and we're really happy," Dale said.

"From our barrier [8] we don't have to over stress it.

"He's an adaptable horse and he's got a good barrier so we don't have to over think it and we can adapt our plan and can watch how the race is unfolding on the day, combined with the speed in the race we can ride him accordingly."

Fell Swoop will carry 52.5kg on Saturday, half a kilogram less than his run in the Oakleigh. But rather than think his charge had dodged the handicapper, Dale said it was a fair weight based on the strength of the Galaxy. Brenton Avdulla will take the mount, and rode Fell Swoop in a jump out at Goulburn in January.

[The Galaxy] is a stronger race - a very, very deep race because of the added prizemoney combined with the positioning of it two weeks before the richest spring race in Australia the TJ Smith," Dale said.

"It has attracted a really, really good field and I think that's the reasoning behind his weight.

"Brenton rode him at Goulburn to have a feel for him because we knew he was likely to get a lightweight and it's been a long range plan."

Dale labelled three-year-old filly English as the horse Fell Swoop needs to beat if he is to improve his record of eight wins from 11 starts.

English finished second in last year's Golden Slipper and returned from a 42-week spell with a thrilling win in the group 2 Challenge Stakes.

"She was very impressive first up and is right down in the weights and appreciates a big tempo," Dale said.

"Apart from her, you could throw up a number of names - five, six, seven horses - who will be right there."

Dale will turn his attention to Melbourne after Saturday's Galaxy, with Unanimously set for the $100,000 55 Second Challenge Final (955-metres) at Moonee Valley.

"He lives next door to Fell Swoop, he's passed the baton over as the stable's leading ride, but he's going as good as he ever has and will be aimed at the Wagga Town Plate again this year, he's won it twice and will be aiming for a third."

Dale also has Sheezsingle and Itchyzariz running in a rare Saturday meeting in Canberra. First race is at 1.32pm.
