Know Your Nags

The Sydney Cup might be the feature finish to this year's Sydney carnival, but it's hard to look past the Queen Elizabeth Stakes as far as quality racing goes. A Melbourne Cup winner (Americain), two Doncaster winners (More Joyous, Rangirangdoo), a NZ Derby winner (Jimmy Chioux), an Epsom winner (Secret Admirer, and Manighar, who will be chasing a fourth consecutive group 1) will all head to the barriers for this group 1. All up there's a collective 20 group1 wins from the eight runners in today's race. The 2000 metres could be a test for More Joyous, but she was hitting the line very, very well in the Doncaster. Manighar hasn't put a foot wrong this campaign and will be the first horse in history to win the Australian Cup-Ranvet-the BMW-Queen Elizabeth Stakes quaddie. It's a very hard race to pick but such is the quality of the field there's sure to be some super value around.

He's been absolutely outstanding this campaign with four victories and a third place. Chasing a fourth consecutive group 1 today, he's going to need to produce another masterful performance. With regular jockey Luke Nolen in Adelaide to ride Black Caviar's 20th win, supreme hoop Damien Oliver jumps aboard the superstar. 2000m could be on the short side but he's proven over the distance and will salute today to ensure trainer Peter Moody has something other than the great Black Caviar to celebrate.

How to spend $20 on today's races: $10 WIN, Randwick, race seven, No.2, Manighar

With little pace in today's race we'll expect Manighar to push forward to ensure the likes of More Joyous and Jimmy Chioux don't have it all their own way. Oliver will give this star a cosy ride before releasing him down the Randwick straight. $5 QUINELLA, Randwick, race four, No.13, Miss Keepsake, Fibrillation

Miss Keepsake was second behind More Joyous in the Queen of the Turf last start over 1500m. Moves up to the mile today and should enjoy the distance. Fibrillation was scratched last start but class is permanent and Know Your Nags will give her another chance today. $5 WIN, Randwick, race six, No.2, Drunken Sailor

Proved he was up to the two miles with a very impressive second behind Rialya in the Adelaide Cup. His last outing was just as eye-catching, finishing third behind Manighar and Americain in the BMW. Down in the weights, guaranteed to stay the distance.
