Two years ago Neville Layt was bringing home a chestnut filly from the Magic Millions yearling sales on the Gold Coast unaware of the thrilling ride she would take him on.
This year the Queanbeyan trainer has brought home five yearlings in the hopes of finding his next Karuta Queen - his $30,000 Magic Millions purchase in 2010, who went back to the Gold Coast last year to claim the $2million Magic Millions Classic.
Layt's most expensive purchase this year was a $90,000 Starcraft colt and he also picked up yearlings by Not A Single Doubt, the sire of Karuta Queen, Flying Spur and 2008 Golden Slipper winner Sebring.
Layt will saddle up four horses in today's seven race meeting at Thoroughbred Park.
Layt rated One More Grand in the benchmark 65 Handicap (1200m) as one of his best chances.
One More Grand set a race record in his last start when he defeated New York's Finest by three lengths at Thoroughbred Park last month.
