WAGGA GOLD CUP

By Matt Malone

RESILIENT Canberra frontrunner Voice Commander showcased his
remarkable courage and fight to claim a thrilling victory in yesterday's
$140,000 Listed Wagga Gold Cup (2000m).

Canberra trainer Nick Olive declared the victory the highlight of his career
as jockey Kathy O'Hara created history to become the first female jockey to win
the Wagga Gold Cup.

Voice Commander led the field for home and appeared gone several times in the
home straight as the Bede Murray-trained World Wide came to the fore.

World Wide joined Voice Commander early in the straight and looked to go past
him

David Polkinghorne It was Voice Commander's athleticism that first caught Nick Olive's eye at the yearling sales in Adelaide seven years ago.
