Roberts was competing against just one other athlete two weeks ago when she threw a Commonwealth Games A-qualifying distance of 60.12 metres to put her a step closer to Australian selection.

But just two days later, officials informed her of a rule which requires at least three competitors to use the same weighted javelin (600 grams) for distances to be ratified.

The 22-year-old was shattered when her personal best throw was stricken from the records.

Now Roberts is armed with a technical check list, has a new goal of throwing 63 metres and has recruited some of her javelin friends to boost competition numbers as she relaunches her bid at the ACT Championships.

''I thought everything was fine and then I got a call from Athletics Australia … It was pretty devastating and frustrating,'' Roberts said.

''But it's in the rules. It was a technicality that was overlooked and it's put more fire in my belly.

''We know the rules now, I called one of my friends who is throwing to make sure she's there, I tried my best to get the numbers up but it's difficult in Canberra where there's not a whole heap of throwers.''

Roberts will compete as part of a big field at the ACT Championships at the AIS Track.

The chance to qualify for the Commonwealth Games and the new $1 million track has lured some of Australia's best athletes to the capital.

Olympic Games gold medal winner Sally Pearson will battle with Canberra's Melissa Breen in the 100 metres while YouTube sensation Michelle Jenneke will also compete in the 100m hurdles.

Athlete numbers have swelled above 270, an increase of more than 100 compared to previous years.

Roberts is aiming to qualify for her first senior Australian team.

Just two years ago she considered quitting the sport after suffering a serious elbow ligament injury.

Before her ineligible 60.12 metres throw, Roberts' personal best was 58.58 metres.

But instead of dwelling on a missed opportunity, Roberts is confident she can repeat that performance.

''I don't want it to be in my mind and have it put pressure on me,'' Roberts said.

''That was my first throw of the year and I just have to have confidence in my training and believe I can do it again. Hopefully no other rules come up.

''I was on such a high, I was in a great head space. I know that distance (60 metres) is not an issue now, it's just a case of replicating it. I'm hoping to throw 63 metres by the national titles in April.''
