Ricciardo signs with Toro Rosso

A more experienced Daniel Ricciardo says he expects "big things" in 2013 after signing with Formula One team Toro Rosso for another year.

The 23-year-old Australian has had an impressive season with the Italian outfit - an affiliate of defending constructors champions Red Bull - enjoying four ninth-place finishes to rack up a total of nine championship points.

He failed to register any points with HRT last year.

"It was nice to get confirmation that I'll be back with Toro Rosso next year," Ricciardo said, adding that he thought it was his consistent performance in qualifying that helped secure the deal.

"It's good to now focus on the last three races knowing that we've got that behind us for the next season."

The young Aussie said changes within the team at the back-end of 2012 will be fully realised next year - and with them come big expectations.

"It's been a little bit too late to make a huge difference this year but we're definitely expecting good things for next year," he said.

"And a bit more experience behind me will help as well."

Ricciardo sits 18th overall in the drivers' championship, three points behind French teammate Jean-Eric Vergne who this week also signed with Toro Rosso for 2013.

He said the team plans to introduce some minor changes to the car at this weekend's Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi, but "nothing to brag about".

"We've been pretty good since the summer break, definitely been more consistent and fighting for points more regularly," Ricciardo said.

"Unfortunately in India it wasn't the case, but prior to that we'd been pretty on it.

"This weekend we'll see what happens."
