Melbourne's second club, unbackable favourites at the start of the season to win the inaugural premiership, could only sit back and watch the Sunshine Coast secure that honour on the weekend. The Lightning downed the Giants two weeks after Sydney's second team beat the fourth-placed Magpies in an elimination final.

The star-studded Magpies, with six Diamonds-capped players on their roster, had an impacted preseason due to the Quad Series in South Africa and England at the start of the year, where most of their starting side were away on international duty.

Next year's Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast run from April 4-15, and round one of the Super Netball will be played over either the third or fourth weekend of that month.

Diamonds players will head into camp for the Commonwealth Games in late March, meaning Super Netball clubs have access to their internationals for all bar three weeks of preseason.

Eight Magpies are now committed to the club for 2018, after Diamonds trio Sharni Layton, Caitlin Thwaites and Madi Robinson put pen to paper for a one-year contract extension.

They join fellow Diamonds Kim Ravaillion, April Brandley and Ash Brazill along with Shae Brown and Alice Teague-Neeld, who all signed two-year deals with the club before the competition began.

"Having it [Super Netball] start in April will probably be very beneficial for us," Ravaillion said.

"Being a part of the Aussie team at the start of the year where we didn't have that bond together, a few of us were out doing a tour in January where most teams were all combined and getting their fixtures together.

"We started to hit our straps when we got knocked out of the league. Having that time to really regroup and figure out everyone's playing styles and get that time together and see what everyone's like under fatigue and under preseason will be so beneficial."

Ravaillion also expected the bullseye the Magpies wore all year as raging favourites would be transferred to the premiers next season.

"We knew we were a target and we ended up where we did, hopefully next year we'll go in with less pressure, the target's now Sunshine Coast Lightning, everyone wants to beat the winners," Ravaillion said.

"I just love that challenge and I can't wait to get out there, I just want it to start all over again now because I'm hungry for it already."

Ravaillion was in Sydney on Tuesday to help launch Nike's No Turning Back campaign, alongside Andrew Johns, Steve Moneghetti, Nic Naitanui, Kyah Simon and Hayley Wilson.

The campaign is aimed at encouraging younger athletes to release their inner competitive spirit, something Ravaillion felt she had to do when switching from the Queensland Firebirds to the Magpies last season.

"I know that my game was plateauing and my moment was when I thought I just wasn't improving so I needed to make that change and feel uncomfortable again, and that led to my move down to Melbourne where I started playing for the Collingwood Magpies," Ravaillion said.

"I was in Melbourne in a new big city, not comfortable. It challenged me as an athlete, and it also challenged me as a person.

"It all comes with growing in your own job. I've thoroughly backed my decision and I'm happy with where I am now."
