The 19-year-old attacking midfielder will bolster a Blue Devils side keen to continue its sensational season of 23 straight victories last year.

United will have to wait a week to begin its title defence after its match scheduled for Sunday with ACTAS as McKellar Park was postponed because of wet weather.

Canberra FC and Canberra Olympic will also have to cool their heels, while Weston-Molonglo will take on Tuggeranong United and Monaro Panthers meet ANU, with both games at ANU synthetic fields.

The Blue Devils will go in as the red-hot favourites to go back-to-back after the addition of Williams to go alongside their Canberra United contingent of Sally Rojahn, Catherine Brown, Grace Field and Caitlin Munoz.

Williams trialled with United for the 2012-13 season, but the Tasmanian narrowly missed out on making the club's 20-player roster.

"I just missed out, 21st of 20,'' Williams said.

"I admit I probably wasn't up to the standard, I was only 17, but being able to train with players like (Matildas striker) Michelle Heyman and the senior girls that are in the national team, it was great.

"It felt like I was a little bit closer and not that far away.''

A former Australian under-14 and under-17 representative, Williams knew Rojahn, Brown and Field from when they were playing in the NTC Challenge in 2012, when Tasmania and the ACT fielded a combined team.

Williams moved to Canberra a couple of months ago for university and is eager to bounce back from an injury-ravaged season.

"I got studs in the back of the ankle when I went to the Young Matildas camp in May (last year) and had inflammation and only just got better 10 months later,'' she said.

"I had a lot of inflammation in two different areas of my ankle so my ankle was swollen for a long time, and it's only just settled down now.

"I have little tiny stud marks either side of my Achilles still.''

Williams made an instant impression with the Blue Devils on their way to winning the Federation Cup with a 5-3 win against the Monaro Panthers in the final.

Expectations will be high for the club to repeat their success of last season.

Along with collecting results, the Blue Devils are intent on maintaining a possession-based style which utilises the skills of their players.

"We want to keep winning, but we want to keep winning while playing good football,'' Williams said.

"During the Federation Cup, the Canberra United girls had just come back and the goal was to play well and if we win it was a bonus.

"Playing attractive football and being more creative in the front-third is our goal.''
